One of the most popular anime collectibles, Doujinshi are "underground" comics produced by amateur fans and even seasoned manga pros that feature their favorite anime or video game characters. The Japanese copyright owners allow this with a "wink and nod" approach because they often view doujinshi as free marketing for their characters. Print runs on these books are extremely low, ranging from the low hundreds to the low thousands, resulting in a high value of collectibility.
